FGCU Topical Experts Available for Writers, Speaking Engagements
FORT MYERS, FL - The faculty and staff of Florida Gulf Coast University are making available to Southwest Florida their vast and varied collection of knowledge as a free public service to the community and the media.
FGCU's "Directory of Experts" offers assistance to reporters, writers, researchers and others who need information in a specialized area. Members of the FGCU "Speakers Bureau" are also available to address groups such as service and civic clubs and organizations on a topic of interest.
Both experts and speakers are located by topic at the FGCU Community Relations and Marketing web site
"With teaching, research and service as its primary mission, the University is a natural community resource for expertise in a broad range of disciplines," associate vice president for university advancement Audrea Anderson said. "From its inception, FGCU has provided our community with speakers and experts on issues of interest to the community. The on-line Speakers Bureau and Experts Directory make this University service even more accessible to the community."
Even before the launch of the web site, members of the media embraced the availability of experts, using several in recent weeks for stories. Assistant professor Eric Strahorn gave facts to reporters about Asian studies, reference librarian Robert Bachand discussed finding accurate health information on the web, and assistant professor Duane Dobbert gave research information on forensic psychology and criminal behavior.
Business experts and speakers include department chairman and professor Walter Rodriquez addressing technical subjects such as E-business, E-commerce and techno-entrepreneurship. Department chairman and associate professor Gerald Schoenfeld Jr. can explain business topics about team building, motivation, performance management, leadership skills, stress management and other human resources issues.
Topics of interest to Floridians include "Florida Writers" addressed by department chairman and associate professor Joe Wisdom.
Associate professor Roy Mumme explains contemporary issues in education such as school choice, courts and religion, vouchers and educational opportunities, taxation for schools, and library and textbook censorship. Violence in schools, sexual harassment, and risk reduction in schools are just a few of the topics that associate professor Russell Sabella talks about.
Provost and vice president for academic affairs Brad Bartel offers information about FGCU growth and opportunity, academic programs, and graduate education. Coordinator of graduate admissions Paula Dumas talks about the trends in higher education toward increased graduate study.
These and many more topics such as history and current affairs or politics and government, addressed by those with years of experience in very specialized areas of education and research, can be of interest to anyone seeking expert advice and good speakers. Community Relations and Marketing continually updates the lists of available experts and speakers, which are available on the web at
