"Performance Management" Techniques Inspire Workers; Free Presentation at FGCU Teaches How to Motivate Employees

FORT MYERS, FL - Employers and managers are responsible for motivating their employees and are invited to learn a successful new method “Getting Results through Performance Management,” a free presentation with Dr. Shelley Metzenbaum, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5 in the Florida Gulf Coast University Whitaker Hall Sprint Room.

Performance Management is a behavior-based management process founded by Aubrey Daniels International. PM is simple yet based on scientific principles. It involves three main elements: measurement, feedback and positive reinforcement. It is a method of getting people to do what you want them to do and to like doing it. Many managers already incorporate some of the techniques but it takes all of the elements applied systematically to obtain best performance.

Metzenbaum is director of the Performance Management Project at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She has authored Measurement that Matters: Cleaning up the Charles River and is a former associate administrator at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and undersecretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs.

A panel discussion will follow. The FGCU Center for Leadership and Innovation, Florida Institute of Government at FGCU, Lee County Government and Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council are sponsoring the free event.
