"How to Win Friends and Influence People...Effective Lobbying" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government

FORT MYERS, FL - Managers and employees from both the private and public sectors are invited to attend a half-day course “How to Win Friends and Influence People…Effective Lobbying” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The course will be held at the Center for Professional Development at Edison Community College.

The course will explore lobbying as the effective way individual citizens and organized groups can impact public policy. The workshop will show methods and easy time-proven techniques of influencing the county commissioner, state legislator or member of Congress.

Objectives:
·Examining the process
·Guidelines for testifying
·Techniques for organizing individuals and groups
·Building coalitions
·What works and what doesn’t

Patricia S. Florestano is instructor for the program. Her career spans higher education, politics and public policy at the state and national level. She served as the chief lobbyist for the 11-campus University of Maryland system, as a legislative staffer and as an adviser to local governments. Recently the Secretary of Higher Education for Maryland, she was the agency’s principle lobbyist.

The central purpose of the Institute is to help promote superior performance in government and nonprofit organizations through quality training, consulting and technical assistance. As an accredited comprehensive public university, FGCU addresses the higher educational needs of Southwest Florida and provides a learning-centered environment that offers high quality educational opportunities, such as administratively hosting the Institute.
