O'Brien Work Blends Fine Art With Aviation Technology, Show Runs Jan. 17 through Feb. 10
FORT MYERS, FL - Naples artist Jo-Ann Lizio O’Brien will be showing Recent Work in the Florida Gulf Coast University Library Art Gallery Thursday, Jan. 17 through Sunday, Feb. 10. An opening reception will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 17 and the artist will speak informally about her work at 5:30 p.m.
O’Brien’s exhibition will include large-scale, painted, mixed-media pieces that incorporate aviation-related materials and references. Lyrical and beautifully crafted, O’Brien’s art since 1999 has focused on abstract images that blend fine art and aviation technology materials.
“In the hands of a competent pilot, the experience of flying becomes a record of kinesis in three dimension,” O’Brien said. “Insofar as movement is a fundamental element of design essential in an artist’s composition, could it be aviators truly take off to experience flight for art’s sake? My work advances this premise closer to its natural conclusion: the abstraction of the behaviors, materials, processes and structures of flight into fine art.”
The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. All events in the gallery are open free of charge to the public. The gallery is located on the FGCU campus east of I-75 exits 19 and 20.
