Child Violence Prevention is Subject of Workshop with Leading Scholar from Germany
FORT MYERS, FL - Preventing child violence and targeting efforts that work are the subjects of a workshop tomorrow with keynote speaker Ursula Henke, noted professor at Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Whitaker Hall Sprint Room at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Henke is a well-known researcher in the field of violence among children and has been published numerous times on the topic of children, socialization and violence. Currently, she is creating a database for projects related to juvenile violence. She holds a doctorate in sociology and has taught for 25 years.
Workshop participants will learn how to recognize the social implications related to children and violence and demonstrate an understanding of local program initiatives. They should also be able to understand the interdependence between the school and community in child violence and recognize the role of mental health in child-related violence.
The FGCU Division of Social Work is presenting the program in partnership with the Lee County School District, Lee County Counselors Association, National Association of Social Workers, Southwest Florida Marriage and Family Therapists, and Gulf Coast Counseling Association.
