FGCU Basketball Season Tickets Go On Sale Feb. 12
FORT MYERS, FL - The much-anticipated inaugural season for men’s and women’s basketball at Florida Gulf Coast University may not begin until Nov. 22, but basketball fans can begin revving up their hoop enthusiasm. FGCU season tickets go on sale Tuesday, Feb. 12.
“We are extremely excited about bringing collegiate basketball to Southwest Florida,” FGCU director of Athletics, Carl McAloose, said. “Our coaches are doing a wonderful job recruiting and we feel we will have very competitive teams beginning in our first year of competition.
“We have had an unbelievable amount of interest in season tickets. We gave our faculty and staff an opportunity to purchase tickets prior to the general public and had over 75 seats purchased in the first hour. At a very affordable price, fans will be entertained by an outstanding group of student-athletes in one of the finest facilities in the country.”
From FGCU’s opening games in TECO Arena to the grand opening of FGCU’s new on-campus Alico Arena, over 25 games of both men’s and women’s basketball are included in the season ticket package. Season ticket purchasers have the opportunity to select their own seats for the upcoming season and will have first right of refusal for future years. Depending upon location, seats are priced from $75 to $200. Four of Alico Arena’s six luxury boxes are also available for lease.
“It is so encouraging to see the excitement that our teams are drawing,” men’s basketball head coach, Dave Balza, said. “We want to have a home court advantage and the fans are the most important thing about being at home. If early signs are any indication, I believe Alico Arena will be near capacity. Hopefully our fans will gain a reputation throughout the NAIA and NCAA as the best fans in the country.”
The first phase of Alico Arena, which is scheduled for completion on Oct. 15, will have a capacity of nearly 3,500 people. The second phase will open in spring 2003 and bring the total capacity to nearly 4,500 fans.
“Since the first day I arrived in Southwest Florida, people have been asking me when season tickets will go on sale,” women’s basketball coach, Karl Smesko, said. “It is time! I am looking forward to our inaugural year and the interaction with our fans.”
Fans can purchase tickets beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Tickets are available at the athletic trailers on the FGCU campus, or by calling (941) 590-7012.
