Emerging Artists Show Their Stuff; Spring 2002 Juried Art Exhibit Starts May 2
FORT MYERS, FL - About 60 works of art will compete for five awards at the Spring 2002 Juried Student Art Exhibition beginning with an opening reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by an awards ceremony at 6:15 p.m., Thursday, May 2 in the Florida Gulf Coast University Library Art Gallery.
Running through May 17, the show features two-dimensional works such as drawings, painting and mixed media, as well as three-dimensional works in clay and other media.
This year, a $1,500 Best of Show Award will be presented, along with a $1,000 Distinguished Achievement Award and three $500 Awards of Merit, all to be determined by a panel of leaders from the professional arts community. The FGCU Foundation and the law firm of Henderson, Franklin, Starnes and Holt are sponsoring the awards to benefit each winner’s educational goals.
As in past student shows, a computerized review “Digital Salon des Refuse” will display all works submitted for inclusion in the exhibition but not selected by FGCU faculty jury members Tricia Fay, Morgan T. Paine, Carl Schwartz and Mary Voytek.
The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. All events in the gallery are open to the public free of charge. The gallery is located on the FGCU campus east of I-75 exits 123 and 128, formerly exits 19 and 20.
