7/2/2002

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University’s Renaissance Academy invites the public to attend “Shark and Fish Monitoring in the Ten Thousand Islands” at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 at the FGCU Naples Center to learn about several major studies currently underway.

Biologist Patrick O’Donnell from the Rookery Bay Reserve will present a two-hour special lecture that explores new research prompted by restoration of the Florida Everglades in the region of Golden Gate Estates. The presentation includes ongoing research on adjacent estuaries to determine their makeup and how restoration efforts will affect them.

Course fee is $5 for Renaissance Academy members and $10 for others. The FGCU Naples Center is located at 1010 Fifth Ave. S.

FGCU created the Renaissance Academy on the premise that learning should never stop and that keeping the mind intellectually, creatively and culturally active fundamentally enhances the quality of life.

As part of FGCU’s commitment to serving the Southwest Florida region, the Renaissance Academy offers courses both on campus and at off-site locations.

For more information about the Renaissance Academy, membership, or other available summer courses, contact the Renaissance Academy at (941) 590-1095 or renaissance@fgcu.edu.
