Platt Named Sports Information Director at FGCU
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University named Andy Platt the University’s first Sports Information Director this week to focus on the intercollegiate athletics program’s media relations and other related tasks.
Platt is responsible for developing media guides for various sports, keeping statistics and records, operating the new Alico Arena ticket office and maintaining the department’s web site.
“We are very fortunate to have Andy Platt join our staff,” director of athletics Carl McAloose said.
“Andy has already worked with us for one year and has proven himself to be an extremely hard worker. We have had great media support at FGCU. Hopefully Andy can make the media’s job a bit easier while promoting our student-athletes and FGCU.”
Last year, Platt worked as a graduate assistant in the FGCU Department of Athletics helping with marketing, promotions and sports information.
Previously, he was the assistant box office accountant for Pro Player Stadium directly serving the Florida Marlins and the Miami Dolphins, and a ticket representative for Complete Ticket Solutions during spring training for the Baltimore Orioles.
He also interned under the director of Community Relations for the Florida Marlins during their World Championship season in 1997 and assisted in pre-game activities with the Department of Communications.
Platt is a 2001 graduate of Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale where he was a four-year letterman in basketball. As a senior guard, Platt captained the squad, ranked among the top 20 scorers in the nation averaging close to 22 ppg and led the Florida Sun Conference in scoring as he earned All Florida-Sun Conference honors.
Platt owns all of Nova’s three-point records including three pointers in a career, three pointers in a game and three pointers in a season. He also ranks among the top five in scoring, rebounding and assists. Concluding the 2000-01 season, his teammates voted him Most Valuable Player.
Platt, 24, is a native of Ashland, Ohio, and resides in Fort Myers. Besides working as the school’s SID, Platt will be working on his master’s degree in Business Administration from FGCU.
