FGCU Remembers Sept. 11, 2001
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University plans to honor those who died on Sept. 11 last year in the tragedy that struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
The day will reflect on the importance of safeguarding our freedoms and what society has learned from those tragic events.
At 8:45 a.m., the time that the first hijacked passenger jet crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center, the University will pause all activity for a moment of reflection.
At 12:15 p.m., students, faculty and staff will join President William C. Merwin in the Student Plaza for a time of remembrance, reflection and thought.
Other campus activities include:
· A memorial board for comments, thoughts, poetry and writings concerning the events of Sept. 11 in the lobby of Griffin Hall. Free index cards are available from the dean of Student Affairs office for thoughts and comments.
· A service project coordinated by Service Learning coordinator Linda Summers for those who want to spend part of the day helping others. Volunteered hours count toward the University’s service learning requirement.
