"Communication and Listening Skills" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government
FORT MYERS, FL - Managers and employees from both the private and public sectors are invited to attend a one-day workshop “Communication and Listening Skills” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University as part of its Professional Development Series from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25 at the FGCU Broadcast Building Room 111.
There are dozens of opportunities in the workplace for employees to use communication and listening skills to their advantage - with customers, coworkers and managers. In this seminar, attendees will learn to move past communication barriers in order to obtain better results and relationships. This workshop promotes listening, advocacy and inquiry skills, which can produce more meaningful and clearer understandings between people in the workplace.
· Clarify the purpose of meaningful communication
· Practice communication techniques
· Assess personal listening skills
· Identify the specific skills necessary for dialoguing
· Identify appropriate learning modes of the listener - visual, auditory and kinesthetic
· Distinguish between differences of opinion and conflict
Allison Blankenship is instructor for the program. She has more than two decades of hands-on experience in management, marketing and communications. She is an effective and persuasive communicator with the proven ability to sell ideas and teaches how to apply successful strategies and hands-on principles to make organizations less stressful and more profitable. Her many years of working with renowned companies like the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Wal-Mart, Textron Financial and Bank One give her experience to show how to structure an organization to achieve immediate results. Blankenship was named an Outstanding Woman of America and was president of the Florida Speakers Association.
The central purpose of the Institute is to help promote superior performance in government and nonprofit organizations through quality training, consulting and technical assistance.
