Community Invited to Open House for the Arts
10/15/2002

FORT MYERS, FL - The public is invited to attend a free “Open House for the Arts” featuring live music, theatrical performances, art demonstrations, hands-on activities for all ages and a benefit silent auction to celebrate the opening of Florida Gulf Coast University’s Arts Complex from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2.

The new $7.1 million, 30,000-square foot Arts Complex is comprised of five state of the art studio classrooms, a woodshop, performance and rehearsal spaces, two soundproof practice rooms, a large podium classroom, and for future use, a recording studio and sound booth.

The art studios, which open into a courtyard, are designated for painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking. In addition to teaching and office space, the Arts Complex features an 1,800-square foot gallery in the central lobby which will begin hosting exhibitions this winter beginning with the FGCU Juried Student Art Show opening Thursday, Dec. 5.

During the open house, a student-led silent auction, featuring donated works by area artists, will benefit the March 2003 student service learning trip to the Dominican Republic.

Hot and cold sandwiches, baked goods and beverages will be available for purchase.
