Inaugural Exhibition Celebrates Six Years of Contemporary Southwest Florida Regional Art
FORT MYERS, FL - The inaugural season of the art gallery in Florida Gulf Coast University’s Arts Complex begins Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, with an opening reception for ART HOUSE: The Retrospective, 1996-2002, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The exhibit will highlight an estimated 50 artists in a retrospective that commemorates six years of contemporary art in the Southwest Florida region.
Art House, a nonprofit organization based in Fort Myers since 1996, installs works of art by two to three artists in a home “donated” for the members-only, quarterly events. Christopher Poehlmann, Mary and Lawrence Voytek, Andy Browne, Patricia Fay, Dorothy Causey, and Marcia Stewart are among the artists who have been featured in Art House installations.
ART HOUSE: The Retrospective simultaneously inaugurates FGCU’s brand new 1,800-square foot state of the Arts Complex art gallery and honors Art House’s ongoing passionate dedication to the contemporary arts in the region. In keeping with Art House’s longstanding commitment to collaboration, as well as FGCU’s Service Learning goals and outcomes, responsibility for curating the retrospective is shared by the Art House Board of Directors and art gallery director Kate Kramer.
ART HOUSE: The Retrospective will run from Saturday, Jan. 25 through Saturday, Feb. 15.
FGCU Arts Complex art gallery admission is free and it is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays observed by the University.
Participation, membership and volunteer opportunities abound at the art gallery.
