FGCU Names Yovanovich To Alumni Post
Fort Myers, FL -- Michele Yovanovich has been named director of Alumni Relations in the Division of University Advancement at Florida Gulf Coast University. She will begin her new post Feb. 3.
Dr. John Robert Quatroche, newly appointed vice president for University Advancement, made the announcement of the addition to his staff: “I am very pleased to make this appointment and welcome Michele to this important position in University Advancement. It is a natural progression of her successful career to date. Establishing and directing an alumni program is a major step in the continuing development of FGCU. Michele brings the requisite background and experience to accomplish this important task. I look forward to working with her in the very near future.”
“Michele’s success in organizing and directing recruitment and admissions efforts is evident in the University’s phenomenal enrollment growth, averaging double-digit increases each year. She has done an excellent job for the University, and I believe her talents and extensive experience are well-suited to building a vibrant alumni program,” said Dr. William Merwin, FGCU president.
As admissions director at a new and developing institution, Yovanovich reviews her achievements with pride. “I have enjoyed being the founding director of Admissions at FGCU, building an excellent staff and very successful admissions and recruitment department.”
Of her new position, Yovanovich says, “I am looking forward to this new opportunity to create another integral component of the University. It’s an honor to have Dr. Merwin’s and Dr. Quatroche’s faith in me to do so.”
As director of Alumni Relations, Yovanovich will establish and develop an alumni affairs program for Florida Gulf Coast University.
Yovanovich came to FGCU in 1996 as the founding director of Admissions. In that role, she established the office and developed admissions policies and procedures for the University in accordance with current state rules. Beyond that, she directs the undergraduate admissions process, plans and implements recruitment and marketing strategies to include large-scale events, workshops on and off campus, receptions and campus tours.
Prior to Yovanovich’s FGCU tenure, she was district director of student development where she was accountable for student enrollment, recruitment strategies, marketing and retention programs for the three campuses of Edison Community College. Previously, she held several student services positions at Edison including coordinator of college/student relations, institutional test administrator and assessment counselor.
Yovanovich began her career at the University of Georgia as a residence hall director, supervising resident assistants and managing operations for 1,000 freshmen. Later, at the University of Miami, she was an academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences, and a residence coordinator, managing facilities and planning programming for a variety of on campus student populations. Yovanovich has also held adjunct teaching positions at Edison Community College, the University of Miami, and the University of Georgia.
A native of Miami, Yovanovich received her associate’s degree from Central Florida Community College and her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stetson University. She earned a master’s degree in student personnel in higher education from the University of Georgia.
A national search to replace Yovanovich in Enrollment Services will begin soon.
