Students from Naples, Cape Coral Win National Scholarships
FORT MYERS, FL - Clinical Laboratory Sciences majors Jessica Bassham of Cape Coral and Kristina Marsala of Naples each won $1,000 scholarships recently from the American Society for Clinical Pathology, Associate Member Section.
“I have had both students in my research class. They are terrific,” dean of the College of Health Professions Denise Heinemann said. The students will begin their clinicals in 2003 as part of the FGCU Clinical Laboratory Science baccalaureate degree program.
The ASCP is a non-profit medical society organized exclusively for educational, scientific and charitable purposes, with a mission to serve as a national resource for the enhancement of the quality of the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine. ASCP membership consists of 10,000 pathologists and other physicians, and more than 140,000 laboratory professionals including doctoral level laboratory scientists, medical technologists, cytotechnologists, histotechnologists, histologic technicians, phlebotomists and medical laboratory technicians.
The ASCP Associate Member Section, created in 1986, has 61,000 members. Affiliated with the physician membership of the ASCP, the Section is a self-functioning entity of the ASCP run by the technologist membership for the technologist membership.
