"Outcome Based Evaluations" Course Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government
FORT MYERS, FL -Managers, supervisors and staff from government and nonprofit sectors are invited to attend a three-part course “Outcome Based Evaluations” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University as part of the its Certification Series from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on three Mondays in February, March and April at the FGCU Broadcast Building, Room 111. Participants may attend any of the classes.
“Introduction to Outcomes and Evaluation Plans” on Feb. 17 will present the basics: terms, the most common models and how to identify good outcome statements. Attendees will learn how to write an outcome statement, how to implement outcomes and logic models, and how to measure outcomes. Topics include indicators, getting good data and six questions to answer before collecting data.
Session 2 on March 10, “Data Tools,” will focus on what is necessary to measure a program’s outcomes: how to pre-test and pilot test, tips and hints for using surveys and running focus groups, and extracting data from case files.
The final session “Data Analysis and Presentation” on April 14 will teach participants how to explain data to funders and others, including easy descriptive statistics, five steps to presenting complex data and crafting a high-impact outcome statement.
Shelley Robertson is instructor for the program. She has prepared local, state and federal grants for a variety of organizations, as well as integrated funding plans, and has been a grant reviewer for state and local funding. She was a corporate trainer and consultant, co-developing cross-functional training programs (corporate universities) for multinational firms and similar programs for international professional trade organizations.
Robertson joined the nonprofit and government sector in 1996 as director of Community Involvement for Heart of Florida United Way. She has presented hundreds of seminars on a variety of topics for nonprofit, government, foundation and public/private organizations. She is a published author and holds a Bachelor of Arts in business and a Master of Arts in applied economics.
