Shepard Named Vice President for Administrative Services at FGCU
FORT MYERS, FL - Joseph Shepard of Estero has been named vice president for Administrative Services at Florida Gulf Coast University effective Aug. 1.
“I am pleased to name Dr. Shepard to this important position for the University,” President William C. Merwin said.
“He will bring to Administrative Services the same dynamic leadership he has provided to Student Affairs operations and services through the years at FGCU.”
Shepard served as dean for Student Affairs since May 2002 and as interim dean for five months prior. He was associate dean for Student Services from 1997 to 2001, assistant dean from 1995 to 1997 and has been adjunct faculty in the colleges of Business, Professional Studies, and Arts and Sciences since 1998.
As vice president for Administrative Services, Shepard will oversee Administrative Computing, Budget, Campus Police and Safety, Controller, Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Planning and Management, Housing, Human Resources, Operations Analysis, Plant Operations and Maintenance, and Purchasing.
“This is an exciting time to be part of the leadership team of such a transformational university,” Shepard said.
“With Florida Gulf Coast University’s strong growth and solid academic qualities this position is critical for the University’s continued success. I believe my leadership style will assist with FGCU’s positive direction in its regional commitment as a comprehensive university.”
Shepard helped create the FGCU offices of Housing and Residential Life, Multi-Access Services, Counseling and Student Health Services, Student Life, Recreation and Leisure Services, Registration and Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, and Dean for Student Services.
As dean for Student Affairs, Shepard was the chief student affairs officer for the University. He provided leadership and guidance in the construction of housing facilities, and developed and implemented the Division of Student Services Strategic Plan. He had direct involvement with all technology within Student Affairs.
Previously, Shepard was assistant director of Housing at the University of North Texas in Denton.
Shepard earned his doctorate in public administration with a concentration in public finance from Florida International University in 2001. He received a Master of Business Administration in finance and banking from the University of North Texas in 1992 and a Bachelor of Science in math education from Northern Arizona University in 1987.
Shepard replaces retiring vice president for Administrative Affairs Curtis Bullock.
