FGCU Names New Dean of Student Affairs
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University recently selected Vincent G. June of Fort Myers to the position of dean of Student Affairs.
Since coming to FGCU in 1997, June has held the titles of assistant dean of Student Affairs, director of Student Support Services, interim director of New Student Orientation, coordinator of Multi-Access Services and adjunct instructor, in addition to serving on several committees.
“My interest in student affairs started as a residential assistant (RA) and student employee at Florida A&M University,” June said.
“It is very exciting to see my career aspirations come to fruition through hard work, a strong commitment to education, being a team player, and having wonderful mentors along the way. As the new dean of student affairs, I look forward to further guiding a dynamic division committed to providing the best institutional resources, services, and programs to our students at Florida Gulf Coast University.”
As dean, June is responsible for all matters related to services, programs, policies and activities that affect the personal, cultural and general welfare of students outside of the classroom.
Other duties include supervising administrative, budgetary and accountability functions of the division of Student Affairs.
In addition, the dean coordinates development of student involvement, is a liaison for students in student matters and is responsible for ensuring programs are designed to enhance student self-development in preparing them for life and living, as well as making a living.
At FGCU, June has been honored with the Outstanding A&P Employee of the Year award, Eagle Excellence Award for Outstanding Administrator, Most Spirited & Outgoing Award in FGCU Student Services, Community Service Award from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Staff Appreciation Award from the Student Government Association.
Prior to working at FGCU, June was assistant to the dean in the College of Education, program assistant in the Office of Multicultural Student Services, resident director of McEachem Graduate Hall, and adjunct instructor at Washington State University.
He taught at Palm Beach Community College and for the Palm Beach County School District.
June earned a Ph.D. in higher education-student affairs and a Master of Business Administration from Washington State University, and a Bachelor of Science in economics from Florida A&M University.
