"Writing User-Friendly Policies, Procedures and Manuals" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government
FORT MYERS, FL - Managers, supervisors and employees from both the private and public sectors are invited to attend a two-day course “Writing User-Friendly Policies, Procedures and Manuals” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University as part of the its Professional Development Series 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8 in Broadcast Building Room 111.
Participants will learn how to prepare clear, concise instructions, whether it is for a policies and procedures manual or a one-page sheet of directions. The primary goal of the seminar is to show how to plan, write, edit and publish successful manuals, guidelines, directives, policies and procedures.
Participants will learn to:
· Analyze the audience
· Recognize appropriate style, structure and sequence of information, tailored to the reader
· Determine which of seven types of writing best matches the reader’s needs
· Design a readable page layout
· Maintain, revise and purge documents efficiently
Jim Jacoby is instructor for the program. He has more than 30 years experience in communications management for several Fortune 500 companies and has owned his own consulting business since 1977. His expertise is business writing, specializing in assisting organizations with policies and procedures.
Currently, Jacoby is an adjunct at FGCU and two colleges, and conducts in-house training at numerous organizations in Florida, Minnesota and Oklahoma. The author of a textbook and many publications, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Pennsylvania State University.
The central purpose of the Institute is to help promote superior performance in government and nonprofit organizations through quality training, consulting and technical assistance.
