"Certified Public Manager, Level II" Workshop Offered by FGCU Florida Institute of Government
7/21/2003

FORT MYERS, FL -Supervisors, managers and executives from the public sector are invited to attend a four-day course “Certified Public Manager, Level II” presented by the Florida Institute of Government at Florida Gulf Coast University as part of the its Certificate Series 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 13, 14, 20 and 21 at the Lee County Tax Collector Building in Fort Myers.

For employees who would like to learn the concepts and techniques involving the development and maintenance of cohesive and productive work groups, this course will emphasize the dynamics of manager and work group interaction.

CPM Levels I, II and III are certified by the Florida Department of Management Services as meeting the requirements and learning objectives of the management components of the Basic Supervisory Skills Training Program.

Participants will learn about:

     Personal styles in groups

     Problem solving and decision making

     Managing organization conflict

     Group dynamics, teams and work process improvement

Jim LaRue is instructor for the program. He is president of LaRue Planning and Management Services and has more than two decades of government management and consulting experience. LaRue’s background includes time spent as a county administrator, assistant county administrator, assistant city manager, zoning administrator and senior planner.

He has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Texas and master’s degrees in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa, and in political science from Memphis State University.

The central purpose of the Institute is to help promote superior performance in government and nonprofit organizations through quality training, consulting and technical assistance.
