Center for Positive Aging Announces Fall Schedule of Programs
9/10/2003

FORT MYERS, FL - The Southwest Florida Center for Positive Aging at Florida Gulf Coast University announces its fall schedule of programs.

Health Promotion for the Mind, Body, & Spirit
A 12-week course for the older adult who wishes to learn methods of maintaining optimal health.
Day/Time/Cost: Wednesdays, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; $36 including all books and supplies
Dates/Location: 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 12/3, 12/10 at the Charlotte County Cultural Center

Recreation Club
A six-week recreation program designed for older adults with cognitive impairments. The program provides participants with meaningful cognitive, social and physical activities. First time participants receive free six-week session. Additional weeks are $10.
Day/Time/Cost: Fridays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Lunch money $5-6
Location: Charlotte County Cultural Center
Dates:      Session 1-     9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31
     Session 2-     11/7, 11/14, 12/5, 12/12, 12/19

Exercise for the Body and Mind
A six-week course designed to assist caregivers for people with cognitive impairments, in building strength, endurance and balance, and decreasing feelings of stress.
Day/Time/Cost: Mondays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; $10
Dates/Location: 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27 at the Charlotte County Cultural Center

Relaxation for the Body and Mind
A six-week course designed to assist older adults with cognitive impairments in identifying sources of stress, learn coping strategies and create a personal relaxation plan.
Day/Time/Cost: Mondays, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; $10
Dates/Location: 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27 at the Charlotte County Cultural Center

Gulf Coast Pet Partners Training
An eight-hour course to train Pet Partners teams. Minimum age 10. No pets on these dates.
Time/Cost: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; $75, or $50 if participant is over 65; includes manual and evaluation
Dates/Location: Choose either 9/23 at the Charlotte County Cultural Center, or 10/11 at FGCU

Free Memory Screening
Monday, 10/20     2 p.m. to 4 p.m.          Charlotte County Cultural Center
Monday, 11/10     2 p.m. to 4 p.m.          Charlotte County Cultural Center
Monday, 12/8     10 a.m. to Noon          Charlotte County Cultural Center
