FGCU Presents Viewing March 4 in Observance of "Sun-Earth Day"

WHO     FGCU astronomy faculty and students, for the public

WHAT     Sun-Earth Day 2004 Observation featuring

     Telescopes equipped with different filters will provide unique views of the Sun’s chromosphere and photosphere allowing for observation of sunspots, solar prominences and solar flares

     Students and faculty will be available to answer questions about the Sun and the effects of an “active” Sun on the Earth and our life

WHEN     10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, March 4, weather permitting

WHERE     Plaza between Griffin and Reed halls

WHY          To celebrate Sun-Earth Day, March 19. Sun-Earth Day is designated as preparation for a celestial event of historical scientific importance when the silhouette of the planet Venus crosses the face of the Sun as seen from the Earth June 8. The “transit of Venus” last occurred in 1882.

COST     Free, however donations are accepted
