High School Juniors, Seniors with Disabilities Invited to Eighth Annual Career Day
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University is expecting several hundred local high school juniors and seniors with disabilities to attend the eighth annual Career Day event, 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 7 in Academic Building III to explore the job market and learn about employment opportunities in Southwest Florida.
FGCU expects over 400 participants to visit with employers and agencies such as Bonita Bay Properties, Edison Community College, FGCU, Galloway Ford, Goodwill Industries, High Tech Central, Hyatt Regency Coconut Point, Lee County School District, Lee Memorial Health System, LYNX, The Ritz-Carlton Resorts of Naples, Universal Technical Institute and Vocational Rehabilitation.
High schools that have confirmed participation include Alternative Learning Center, Cape, Cypress Lake, Dunbar, Estero Edison Center, Fort Myers, High Tech Central, Lehigh Senior, Mariner, Milburn Academy, New Directions, North, Riverdale and Royal Palm.
"The theme for this year is Career Day 2004: C.E.O. of My Life! (Career and Employment Opportunities)," dean of Student Affairs Vincent June said.
"The goal of this event is to help students with disabilities explore the job market and become aware of career opportunities in our community."
FGCU, the Mayor's Alliance for People with Disabilities and the School District of Lee County are sponsoring the event.
