FGCU Starts Certified Financial Planner Certification Program in Naples; Plans Sarasota Site for 2005
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University next month will begin offering the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERT Certification Education Program at the Professional Development Center in Naples to help meet the educational needs of financial professionals in Collier County.
The six-course education program, which FGCU already offers in Fort Myers through the College of Business' Center for Leadership and Innovation, is registered with the CFP Board of Standards (
The first course, Estate Planning, is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursdays, July 15 through Sept. 16. The course fee is $595. Other classes begin in October, January and April. Upon successful completion, students receive a certificate of completion in financial planning and 14 hours of continuing education units from the Florida Department of Insurance.
Financial planning options continue to increase for many Americans, yet few are well educated on how to handle them, which is causing an upswing in the financial services industry.
In 2001, the Associated Press reported that Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan told Congress "that Americans must be better educated on managing their finances in the face of a proliferation of ever-more-complicated investment choices."
CFP certification helps the public make smart choices in their financial planning by identifying those individuals who "have met rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence when dealing with clients."
The CFP Certification Education Program is specifically designed for financial professionals and is structured to provide a comprehensive education in the practice of financial planning.
"The financial services environment is changing. Financial professionals must be knowledgeable in the interrelationships of financial disciplines. The 21st century client requires competent financial consultation in assessment and attainment of their financial objectives," FGCU CFP Certification Education Program director Robert D. Lovett, CFP, said.
The FGCU CFP Certification Education Program accepts transfers from other programs and self-study programs. Practicing financial professionals with CFP certification teach all courses.
The FGCU Certification Education Program also offers a CFP examination review course leading up to each certification examination, as well as certification examination professional summaries for other professionals with specific credentials seeking CFP certification.
The Professional Development Center is located at 615 Third Ave. S.
