FGCU Remembers Sept. 11, 2001
FORT MYERS, FL - Thursday, Sept. 9, Florida Gulf Coast University begins a weeklong remembrance of those who died Sept. 11, 2001, in the tragedy that struck the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon and United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
The week of events focuses on national unity amid the challenges of a new era, a remembrance of those who lost their lives, the reorganization of firefighters and private citizens in providing assistance, and viewing the world as a singular global community.

Thursday, Sept. 9, lawn between McTarnaghan Hall and the Student Union
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. San Carlos Fire Department fire truck with ladder raised over the ceremony, displaying an American flag at the end of the latter
11:30 a.m. to Noon Barron Collier Band and Color Guard patriotic tribute
Noon Student Union bell tower tolls 30 times, once for every 100 victims of Sept. 11

4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Azhar Subedar and Rasim F. Kut from the Naples Islamic Center speak on Islamic history and culture
