FGCU Center for Positive Aging Presents Workshop Jan. 4 for Recreation/Activities Professionals, Restorative Aides
FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Gulf Coast University Center for Positive Aging offers a one-day workshop Tuesday, Jan. 4 at the Charlotte County Cultural Center for recreation/activities professionals and restorative aides who assist in enhancing activity engagement and help meet new survey standards for long-term care.
Workshop sessions include presentations on the Simple Pleasures sensori-motor program, therapeutic exercise and walking programs to enhance function, and therapeutic cooking and music programs for physical, psychosocial and cognitive functioning.
Participants learn about the key components for need-based therapeutic programs for frail older adults, how to assess need in frail older adults and appropriately prescribe therapeutic activity, how to select appropriate residents and clients for various programs, how to grade each activity to allow for success experiences, and how to measure outcomes and quality indicators for each therapeutic program.
The cost is $60 for up to three staff members from the same facility. Registration includes lunch and handouts. The workshop is limited to the first 100 participants. CEUs are available.
The program is facilitated by staff of the FGCU Center for Positive Aging.
