FGCU Student Nurses Take Home Top Awards at State Convention
FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Nursing Students Association recently honored students of the Florida Gulf Coast University chapter with several awards of distinction at the organization's state convention in Orlando including the prestigious Chapter of the Year Award for most outstanding chapter in the state of Florida.
"They are an awesome group," nursing faculty and NSA advisor Beth Murray said. "I was in awe and so proud of them."
The FGCU chapter won four other awards including the Newsletter Award for most outstanding chapter newsletters, the Project Award for most outstanding project depicting the convention's theme "One Destination, Many Paths," and the Activities Award for most outstanding chapter activities during the past year.
For the seventh year, the FGCU chapter won the Community Health Award for most outstanding Community Health Project for Project Moses and Hurricane Charley relief. The award recognizes the NSA whose contributions to nursing and community health greatly benefit the public.
"I think this is so commendable," Murray said. "They really work hard. Keep in mind they have only been a chapter for seven years so to walk away with Chapter of the Year is phenomenal."
Local NSA chapters are members of the FNSA, a constituent of the National Nursing Student Association. Students in the FGCU chapter compete against all universities and community colleges in the state of Florida. The organization's purpose is to help prepare nursing students for professional responsibilities, assist in development of the student as a whole person and that person's responsibility for healthcare, and provide programs that represent fundamental and current professional concerns.
"I want to commend everyone who participated this year in making the FGCU School of Nursing NSA chapter the most successful and outstanding chapter in the state of Florida," School of Nursing director Karen Miles said.
