Registration for FGCU Conference on Childhood Education Ends Feb. 1

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University accepts registration for the "Mission Towards Education: Pedagogy and Practice" education conference through Tuesday, Feb. 1 from community members, classroom teachers, child care providers and personnel, educators, and college students interested in childhood education from birth to early adolescence.

James L. Hoot is keynote speaker for the one-day conference, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12 in the Whitaker Hall Sprint Room.

Hoot will speak on educating children in a global world. He is professor of Early Childhood Education, director of the Early Childhood Research Center at State University of New York at Buffalo, and recipient of the 2004 Patty Smith Hill Lifetime Achievement Award.

The event offers breakout sessions on integrated topics in special and childhood education, diversity in literacy, and environmental sustainability. Presenters represent various educational institutions from the state of Florida and Russia.

In partnership with the Florida Association for Childhood Education International and the Eagles Educate/Association for Childhood Education International student chapter, FGCU's Southwest Florida Comprehensive System of Personnel Development hosts the event to highlight initiatives and strategies that help adults in supporting young children to develop in a global society.

"In accordance with the mission of ACEI, which advocates for promoting and supporting in the global community the optimal education and development of children, conference participants will exchange ideas on how best to provide high quality services for our children," CSPD project coordinator Peg Sullivan said.
