FGCU Appoints Gray-Vickrey as Associate Vice President of Curriculum and Instruction
2/3/2005

FORT MYERS, FL - Today, Florida Gulf Coast University provost and vice president for Academic Affairs Bonnie L. Yegidis announced the appointment of Peg Gray-Vickrey as associate vice president of Curriculum and Instruction, and the establishment of an Office of Curriculum and Instruction to fortify the role of undergraduate education at FGCU.

Gray-Vickrey, a founding faculty member at FGCU and currently a professor in the School of Nursing, will work halftime beginning Feb. 21. She starts fulltime in her new job July 1.

FGCU developed the position of associate vice president of Curriculum and Instruction from the recommendations of the Undergraduate Studies Task Force. The Task Force included a cross-section of representatives from FGCU's five colleges, the library and other areas of the campus.

"My charge to this group was to consider how best to strengthen and enhance activities and functions of undergraduate education - a critical component of the FGCU experience beginning with the institution's founding learning outcomes and through the recently approved strategic plan for 2005-2010," Yegidis said.

The new Office of Curriculum and Instruction is responsible for general education, convocation and curriculum systems, in addition to the Learning Academy, Honors Program, Center for Academic Assistance and Quality Enhancement Plan. Gray-Vickrey is currently section chair of the QEP, which plays an important role in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools reaffirmation process. SACS is the accrediting agency for FGCU.

"Dr. Vickrey's proven leadership abilities and her keen commitment to student learning will greatly advance our opportunity to plan and implement curricular experiences for undergraduate education from a University-wide perspective.

"She is highly regarded for her many teaching, scholarship and service contributions to FGCU," Yegidis said.

Previously, Gray-Vickrey served as chair of the FGCU Mission Statement Task Force and three terms as president of the FGCU Faculty Senate from 2000-03.

Gray-Vickrey earned a Doctor of Nursing Science from the University of Buffalo, a Master of Science in nursing care of the older adult from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.

She is certified in gerontological nursing through the American Nurses Association and is a frequent presenter at national conferences on all aspects of gerontology and distributive learning strategies in nursing education.
