FGCU Invites Public to Decision Makers Forum on Land Use, Preservation
3/4/2005

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the business community and local government officials to "Southwest Florida: Can Nature Survive Our Growth," a Decision Makers Forum, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, April 1 in Whitaker Hall to discuss links between land-use decisions and natural resources. Preservation and restoration of the Caloosahatchee River and Picayune Strand will also be discussed.

The FGCU Division of Ecological Studies and Social Sciences, WilsonMiller and the South Florida Water Management District. Organizers include Decision Makers Forum Inc. (www.decisionmakersforum.org ), the Florida Earth Foundation and the Florida Center for Environmental Studies at Florida Atlantic University.

The forum is open to the public and includes overviews of the $8.4 billion Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan and related local projects in the district's Acceler8 program. Three panel discussions, a keynote address by FGCU assistant professor of environmental education Bill Hammond and lunch are included in the $30 registration fee.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Task Force are also participating.
