Two FGCU Researchers to Present at International Alzheimer's Association Conference
FORT MYERS, FL - The Alzheimer's Association selected Linda Buettner and Suzanne Fitzsimmons of the Southwest Florida Interdisciplinary Center for Positive Aging at Florida Gulf Coast University to participate in the prestigious International Conference on Prevention of Dementia: Early Diagnosis and Intervention, June 18 through 21 in Washington D.C.
The Alzheimer's Association identified FGCU's Southwest Florida Interdisciplinary Center for Positive Aging (http://www.fgcu.edu/cfpa) located in Port Charlotte, as one of the best and brightest.
Buettner, director of the Southwest Florida Interdisciplinary Center for Positive Aging, and Fitzsimmons, clinical director, are invited to conduct two presentations on the Center's unique, innovative and cutting edge programs in Port Charlotte, including an oral presentation on the Center's Community of Caring Program that was developed and implemented in Charlotte County, and a poster presentation on evidence based practice for behaviors in dementia.
The international conference investigates how science and technology can meet to best advance Alzheimer research and treatment. Professionals invited to speak at the conference read like a "Who's Who" list in Alzheimer research.
About 1,000 researchers, physicians, clinicians and policy advocates attend the conference such as biochemists, neurologists, neuroscientists, and geriatric psychiatrists and specialists.
The Alzheimer's Association (http://www.alz.org) is the world leader in Alzheimer research and support. Begun in 1980, it is the first and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to finding prevention methods, treatments and an eventual cure for Alzheimer's, according to their mission statement.
