Seating Available for Gorbachev Simulcast at FGCU
1/31/2006

FORT MYERS, FL - About 230 tickets remain available free to the public for the simulcast in the Student Union ballroom of Mikhail Gorbachev's lecture at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 28 at Florida Gulf Coast University. Seating in Alico Arena where Gorbachev will speak is full.

Tickets to the simulcast are available weekdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Alico Arena box office. Ticket orders are not available via telephone or Internet. Guests are limited to two tickets per person. Additional ticket information is available at the Alico Arena box office at (239) 590-7145.

Gorbachev is the second speaker in FGCU's distinguished University Lecture Series. His one-hour message "Peace in the 21st Century" focuses on global peace in addition to environmental and sustainable development policies as a method to promote peace. The lecture is followed by a question-and-answer period.

In addition to the lecture, FGCU hosts an intimate dinner with Gorbachev for major sponsors of the University Lecture Series. The Gorbachev lecture is sponsored by MacDonald Financial Group.

FGCU provost and vice president for Academic Affairs Bonnie Yegidis, who spearheaded development of the University Lecture Series, selected Gorbachev because FGCU's student learning outcome for the 2005-06 academic year is "ecological perspective" which emphasizes the impact of individuals on systems, particularly the environment.

The FGCU University Lecture Series expands the world of ideas and creative expression for students and the broader community. By inviting distinguished speakers of national and international acclaim to visit campus and speak on topics that inspire and stimulate dialogue among the community, the University Lecture Series advances the University's mission to serve as the intellectual and cultural center of Southwest Florida.

For more information about the event, media representatives should contact Lien Bragg at (239) 590-7035.
