FGCU Art Gallery Opens 'V-Chipped: Video, Art, Gender and Society' March 2

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public and media to the opening reception for "V-Chipped: Video, Art, Gender and Society" 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 2 in the Art Complex art gallery. The show runs March 2 through April 7.
     
The exhibition displays video works by acclaimed artists Alex Bag, Jia Chang, Bruce Nauman and Shirin Neshat examining issues of gender roles and biases from a variety of artistic and cultural perspectives.

Additional works by Craig Baldwin and the Barbie Liberation Organization, British filmmaker Jennet Thomas and Parisian digital design group Pleix will also be on display. The works focus on gender indoctrination of youth in contemporary society. The imagery, sound and message of these video works range from beautiful to disturbing.

The V-Chipped exhibit is sponsored by WGCU Public Media.

Admission to the Art Gallery is free. Parking in FGCU Lot 7 is free for Art Gallery events with a parking pass available at the information booth located at the University's entrance. The gallery is open to the public 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays excluding University holidays.
