Florida Gulf Coast University Announces Founding of Collegiate High School
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University announces the founding of the FGCU Collegiate High School, an early admissions program designed for high achieving students who want to pursue careers in mathematics, science or education.
The FGCU Collegiate High School will accept approximately 20 to 30 high achieving students from the five-county region based on an admission process, which includes transcripts, letters of recommendation, SAT or ACT scores, essays and interviews. Applications are being accepted through Friday, March 31.
Aimed at high school juniors and seniors, students attend FGCU full time with University students. Students enroll in classes that meet the requirements for both high school diplomas and college freshman and sophomore years, and should expect a rigorous academic schedule. At the end of the two year program, students will have earned high school diplomas and up to two years of college credit or an Associate of Arts degree.
Students currently enrolled in public school do not pay tuition or books at FGCU Collegiate High School. Additionally, students shorten the amount of time needed to obtain a degree. Transportation is not provided.
The goal of the FGCU Collegiate High School is to more closely link high school to the postsecondary years for students who are academically and socially ready. The effort is also in response to the demands from economic and workforce development for more graduates in the fields of mathematics, science and education.
