FGCU Opens 'The Women of Lockerbie' March 29
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University opens "The Women of Lockerbie," written by Deborah Brevoort and directed by Diane Stewart, 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 29 in the Arts Complex Black Box Theater.
Other evening performances are March 30, 31 and April 1, 5, 6, 7, 8. Matinees are 2 p.m., Sundays, April 2 and 9.
Written in the structure of a Greek tragedy, "The Women of Lockerbie" is loosely inspired by a true story.
A mother from New Jersey roams the hills of Lockerbie, Scotland, looking for her son's remains that were lost in the crash of Pan Am Flight 103.
She meets the women of the town of Lockerbie, who are fighting the United States government to obtain the clothing of the victims found in the plane's wreckage.
The women, determined to convert an act of hatred into an act of love, want to wash the clothes of the dead and return them to the victims' families.
"The Women of Lockerbie" is the winner of the silver medal in the Onassis International Playwriting Competition and the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays award.
The Cincinnati Journal News said the play is ".a beautifully written script that explores the depths of human sorrow and our various reactions to grief, showing how love can trump evil."
General admission is $10 and student admission is $5 with ID.
