New Online Clearinghouse Shares Canine Research with Police Dog Handlers
FORT MYERS, FL - A new clearinghouse of published canine research, developed by Florida Gulf Coast University assistant professor and director of the Weapons and Equipment Research Institute Charlie Mesloh, now gives police dog handlers the ability to obtain research specific to their dog's operational needs.
The Florida Gulf Coast University Canine Database, at http://k9.fgcu.edu, includes published research, technical reports and data collected in other canine-related projects, and makes them accessible outside of academia at no cost to anyone with an Internet connection.
"The goal is to make it possible for more people to be able to have access to articles that are difficult to find if they are not affiliated with a university," Mesloh said.
The database is searchable by author or topic, and topics range from use of force, narcotics and explosives detection, search and rescue, and generic scent research.
All entries included in the database have editorial permission to be published on the site.
The project was funded by a $5,000 grant from the FGCU Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
