FGCU Names Rollo as Inaugural Vice President for Student Affairs
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University announced this week the appointment of James Michael "Mike" Rollo to become FGCU's first vice president for Student Affairs effective July 1.
Rollo was associate vice president for Student Affairs at the University of Florida since December 2000 after serving in various roles in the Division of Student Affairs since 1979, including a 20-month period as interim vice president for Student Affairs.
"Dr. Rollo has a long and distinguished career in Student Affairs at the University of Florida and we are indeed fortunate to have someone with his wealth of experience and knowledge for this inaugural position," President William C. Merwin said.
"The candidate pool for this position was excellent, and provided the opportunity for FGCU students, faculty and staff to interview outstanding individuals. Dr. Rollo rose to the top of the list by possessing an exceptional background and set of skills that will be so valuable for this important position, and also by demonstrating his best fit with our team at FGCU."
At UF, Rollo provided support and direction to the Dean of Students Office, Counseling Center, J. Wayne Reitz Union, Student Financial Affairs, Career Resource Center, Recreational Sports, and Department of Housing and Residence Education for all administrative functions.
He assisted the division with coordination and oversight of the state supported budget processes, division-wide publications and reports, and programmatic efforts of the Office of the Vice President.
He served as chair of division-wide initiatives on leadership and technology management, and coordinated student recognition programs, student fee committees and special projects.
He coordinated development of a first-year student enhancement program and served on university-wide committees including the Student Health Advisory Board, Recreational Sports Board, Human Resources Advisory Board and the Town and Gown Task Force.
Rollo's prior positions at UF include associate dean of Students, assistant dean for Student Services/director of Student Judicial Affairs, and coordinator of Family Housing Programs.
Before his work at UF, Rollo was residence hall director at The Ohio State University in Columbus, and a counselor at the Interface Runaway Shelter and North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center, both in Gainesville.
Rollo earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1975, a Specialist in Education and Master's of Education in counselor education in 1978, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership in 1986, all from the University of Florida.
