FGCU Center for Positive Aging Hosts Training Conference September 14
for Professionals Working with Older Adults, People with Dementia
FORT MYERS, FL - The Center for Positive Aging at Florida Gulf Coast University invites professionals working with older adults and people with dementia to a training conference 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Charlotte County Cultural Center CFPA Program Room.
"N.E.S.T. Interdisciplinary Dementia Behavior Train the Trainer" is an eight-hour training course about the Needs, Environment, Stimulation, Techniques, or N.E.S.T., approach in the evidence-based treatment of disturbing behaviors in dementia. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The cost for participants is $125 and includes Continuing Education Units, and the N.E.S.T. manual.
The course provides participants with the latest research and information to start a N.E.S.T. team for long-term care settings and community care settings for people with dementia.
The training and resources provided help nurses, administrators and therapists to train others to use non-drug approaches in the management of behaviors in dementia. Continuing education credits are available for social work, nursing, nursing home administrators, and therapists.
Center for Positive Aging director Linda Buettner and clinical director Suzanne Fitzsimmons teach the course.
Seating at the conference is limited. Additional information is available by visiting the Center for Positive Aging Web site at www.fgcu.edu/cfpa
For more information, media representatives should contact Buettner at (239) 590-7497.
