FGCU Bower School of Music Students Perform in Annual Spring Concert April 9
4/4/2007

FORT MYERS, FL - The Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University presents the annual Spring Concert of the Choral Program 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 9 in the Student Union ballroom featuring the University Choir and Chamber Singers. In addition, students in the vocal program present three scenes from W. A. Mozart's The Magic Flute.

Selections by the University Choir include "Awake the harp," from The Creation and "Kyrie" from the Lord Nelson Mass by Franz Josef Haydn, "Neighbors' Chorus" from Jacques Offenbach's La jolie Parfumeuse, "Placido e il Mar" from Idomeneo by Mozart, "Bashana Haba'ah" arranged by John Leavitt, "I'm Gonna Sing 'til the Spirit Moves in My Heart" arranged by Moses Hogan, and "Great Day" arranged by Phillip Kern.

The Chamber Singers sing "Fire, fire my heart" by Thomas Morley, six selections from Johannes Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes, and Dravidian Dithyramb by Victor Paranjoti. In addition, the Chamber Singers sing the Florida premiere of "Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep" by Nancy Hill Cobb.

The University Choir and Chamber Singers are conducted by Nancy Cobb-Lippens, professor and director of the Bower School of Music. Scenes from The Magic Flute are directed by Jeanie Darnell, head of vocal studies. Collaborative pianists include sophomore piano performance major Faith Lanctot, head of piano studies Michael Baron, and adjunct instructor Julie Bearden Shaffer.

The concert is free and open to the public.
