The Girls Are Going Places:
Conference for Young Women Teaches Financial Independence
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Small Business Development Center hosts the Eighth Annual Entrepreneurship Conference for Girls Going Places designed to encourage young girls to take control of their financial future at an early age from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, in the Student Union ballroom.
Girls ages 12 to 18 have the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the business world, create an awareness of career options in non-traditional fields and highlight the advantages of financial independence.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Bonnie Yegidis is the morning welcome speaker.
"We are extremely excited to be at the vanguard of this exciting initiative of helping young girls take their first steps toward financial independence," FGCU Small Business Development Center director Dan Regelski said.
Vice President of the Alliance Financial Group Vicky Madden says the focus of the conference is to teach young girls to take control of their financial futures and encourage them to become financially independent adults.
Over 100 girls from junior and senior high schools in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties have registered for the event, along with over 40 school administrators and numerous parents. Local prominent women who own small businesses will moderate discussions about proprietary opportunities.
The conference is sponsored by the Alliance Financial Group, Guardian Life Insurance Company of America and the FGCU SBDC.
