FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the media to attend a farewell party for assistant professor Bill Hammond from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, April 27 in the Arts Complex to celebrate his contributions to nature study, environmental education and preservation to the Southwest Florida community for over 40 years.
In the last decade, Hammond served as assistant professor of ecological and marine sciences at FGCU. He is mostly recognized for his exemplary support of nature study, environmental and experiential education focusing on best practices of managing environmental resources.
At FGCU, he is highly regarded for his method of carving an environmental trail with a sense of fun. Hammond used education as a platform to open students to issues and encourage them to do things about those issues in a fun and practical way. He will be awarded the title Professor Emeritus at FGCU Commencement ceremonies on Saturday.
Hammond earned a Ph.D. in environmental studies from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia in 1998. He received a Master of Science in science education from the State University of New York, Cortland in 1962.
