FGCU Professor Accepts Appointments to Organizing Committees for International Conferences on Environmental Education
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University professor of Environmental Studies and director for the Center of Environmental and Sustainability Education Peter Blaze Corcoran accepts appointments to organizing committees of two international environmental education conferences.
The Fourth World Environmental Education Congress, or WEEC, will be held July 2 through July 6 in Durban, South Africa. Titled "Learning in a Changing World," it will critically review the progress of environmental education over the past three decades and consider the role of environmental education in supporting and extending the objectives of the recently proclaimed United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005 to 2014. Corcoran serves as member of the scientific committee that has oriented and guided the scientific program.
He also serves on the International Advisory Committee for the Fourth International Conference on Environmental Education, which takes place in Ahmedabad, India, Nov. 26 to 28.
Held every ten years, this official United National Scientific and Cultural Organization, or UNESCO, intergovernmental gathering builds on the 1977 Tbilisi Conference, the world's first intergovernmental conference on environmental education. Corcoran will chair a workshop on the Earth Charter and environmental education at the India conference.
