FGCU Opens "Stop Kiss" Oct. 17
10/2/2007

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Department of Visual and Performing Arts opens "Stop Kiss," written by Diana Son and directed by FGCU assistant professor in Theatre Michelle Hayford, 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17 in the Arts Complex Theatre lab. The show runs through Oct. 28.

"Stop Kiss" was a New York Times best of 1999 pick, described as a "sweet, sad and enchantingly sincere play." An Obie Award winning play, the non-linear story is a postmodern juxtaposition of past and present. At once about violence, risk, affection and the complexity of attraction, the comic drama situates romance as a brave venture requiring self-exploration and the courage to make choices in a climate of fear and ambivalence. "Stop Kiss" is a play that defies categorization - not quite drama, nor comedy about characters neither straight nor lesbian - and encourages all to be open to the unexpected and unconventional.

The cast includes students Jonathan Brickman, Blake Levine, Rebecca Ormiston, Megan Pugh, Miriam Schroetter and Joey Yazvac. Stage managed by student Synthia Kavanagh, and technical direction by assistant professor of Theatre Anne Carncross.

The play runs approximately one hour and 45 minutes with no intermission. Adult language and subject matter may not be suitable for all audiences.

General admission is $10; for FGCU students, faculty and staff admission is $5. Show times are 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, 2 p.m. on Sunday.

As part of FGCU's 10th Anniversary Celebration, a special 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, Oct. 27 is scheduled.

For ticket information, contact Theatre Lab Box Office (239) 590-7268.
