Florida Board of Governors Approves FGCU's First Doctoral Program;
SACS Approves Change from Master's to Doctoral Degree Granting Institution
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Peg Gray-Vickrey announced this week the State University System Board of Governors unanimously approved FGCU's first doctoral program, Doctor of Physical Therapy.
"This is a significant achievement for our campus," Gray-Vickrey said.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, or SACS, approved FGCU's Substantive Change application Dec. 11 to move from a master's to a doctoral degree granting institution. FGCU anticipates enrolling the first students into the DPT program in fall 2008.
"I wish to express my appreciation to everyone involved in this process," Gray-Vickrey said. "Particularly, I would like to acknowledge the work of former Provost Bonnie Yegidis in the development of the program and the physical therapy faculty for their diligent efforts to bring this program to fruition.
"I would also like to recognize Dr. Denise Heinemann, Dean of the College of Health Professions, and Dr. Sharon Bevins, Chairwoman of the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Performance, for the support they provided at the Board of Governors meeting."
