FGCU Renaissance Academy Announces Winter/Spring 2008 Schedule of Lifelong Learning Offerings
1/22/2008

FORT MYERS, FL - The Renaissance Academy of Florida Gulf Coast University announces its winter/spring 2008 program offerings featuring an extensive and diverse curriculum of more than 350 lectures and courses at 14 locations throughout Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties.

The Renaissance Academy offers courses, lectures, films, day trips and other special events as part of FGCU's noncredit program of lifelong learning. Participants do not take tests and there are no grades. Programs focus on quality study for intellectual, cultural and creative enrichment.

This session, the Renaissance Academy program offers the expanded Film Series, which explores the comical genre of "Lives of Medical Doctors," and the reality of "Foreign Films."

Art enthusiasts connect with the lives, loves and psyches of Vincent van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Gertrude Bell, Georgia O'Keefe, and Pablo Picasso.

Moderated discussion groups debate and explore topics such as bombs in the Middle East, Ayn Rand's Objectivism, and influences on the American political system.

Educational tours include a visit to the monumental sculptures and glass artwork at the Fairchild Botanical Gardens in Miami, an opportunity to gaze at the starts and uncover the mystery of our planetary system at the FGCU Observatory, or an excursion abroad to Tuscany or new ecotourism voyage to New Zealand.

Additional special events include a series of concerts, including the romantic chamber music of Elgar and Grieg, a sunset concert series featuring classical and jazz performances, and the music of Harry Warren.

FGCU created the Renaissance Academy on the premise that learning should never stop and that keeping the mind intellectually, creatively and culturally active fundamentally enhances the quality of life.
