FGCU Announces the Family Resource Center Earns National Accreditation;
Among First to Complete Rigorous Accreditation Process
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University College of Education announces its Family Resource Center is one of the first early childhood programs to earn accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals.
"The College of Education's mission is to provide diverse environments of excellence that support dynamic learning experiences. As part of our College, the Family Resource Center reaches out to our youngest learners. Achieving NAEYC accreditation is national recognition that the program is stellar," said dean for the College of Education Marcia Greene.
To earn NAEYC accreditation in the new system, the Family Resource Center completed an extensive process, measuring the program against 10 new standards, which require a new level of quality, accountability, and service for parents and children enrolled in child care programs. The Family Resource Center first achieved accreditation in 1999.
"We are proud to have earned the mark of quality from NAEYC, and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards," said director of the Family Resource Center Jan Piscitelli. "NAEYC accreditation lets families in our community know that children in our program are receiving the highest quality care and education possible."
Organizationally, the Family Resource Center resides in the University's College of Education, and enrolls 55 children of FGCU faculty, students and the community.
