FGCU Showcases International Initiatives; Welcomes International Students, Faculty, Staff to Southwest Florida Sept. 26
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University invites the community to attend a showcase of international initiatives and formal welcoming of international students, faculty and staff to Southwest Florida during the 12th annual International Reception, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26 in the Student Union ballroom.
"To date, we have had 55 countries represented by our international students," said International Services director Elaine Hozdik. "Additionally, a number of our students have studied abroad as part of their educational experience to places such as Australia, Bahamas, Brazil, China, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Italy, New Zealand, Peru and Spain. Through our international and study abroad programs, we continue to add to our understanding of world cultures and perspectives through the diversity of our University community. We encourage members of our community who have an interest in international experiences to join us."
Co-sponsored by FGCU Global Initiatives and International Services and the International Club, the event is an opportunity to become acquainted with FGCU students from other countries or students who have studied abroad.
FGCU will highlight its international education initiatives, its commitment to offering education worldwide and its evolving international reputation. Remarks by University officials and student leaders will be followed by a reception.
"This is a wonderful opportunity where the international and domestic students, staff and faculty can fellowship with community members in developing a deeper understanding and greater interest of the various cultures and study abroad opportunities at FGCU," said International Services assistant director Timothy Gjini.
A sampling of foods and display of flags from the students' homelands will be part of the reception. Several local cultural or international community organizations will also participate.
