FGCU Opens "GARDENFresh" Gallery Artists with Reception Oct. 30
10/24/2008

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Art Gallery invites the public and media to an opening reception for the Chicago-based GARDENFresh Gallery Artists exhibition, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30 at the Art Gallery. The artists will be present at the opening reception. The exhibit runs Oct. 30 through Dec. 13.

The exhibition promises an eclectic sampling of work from the original members of the GARDENFresh group, including founder Andrew Rigsby, Michael John Hofer, the collaborative team of Burtonwood and Holmes, Jeremiah Ketner, Alain Douglas Park, and Vaughnda Johnson. FGCU assistant professor Scott Snyder is curator of the exhibition.

GARDENFresh's participating artists represent a wide range of concepts and mediums in two- and three-dimensional contemporary artwork, ranging from painting and drawing to mixed media installations. The artists' work reflects a concern with current issues in society and culture, touching on such themes as war, commercialism, industry, and individual and private life. In addition, some of the GARDENFresh artists show an influence of pop art and anime.

The main Art Gallery is located in the Arts Complex on the FGCU campus. Hours of exhibition are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The galleries of FGCU are free and open to the public.

For further information, media representatives should contact interim Gallery Director Anica Sturdivant at (239) 590-7199.
