FGCU Environmental Engineering Major Awarded Scholarship from Audubon of Southwest Florida

FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University junior Jason Almcrantz was recently awarded a $2,000 merit-based scholarship from the Education Committee for Audubon of Southwest Florida.

FGCU associate professor in the department of Marine and Ecological Sciences Rebecca Austin, and member of the Education Committee for Audubon said, "Jason is an exceptional student. He has demonstrated a desire to contribute to solutions regarding environmental as well as human problems."

Almcrantz is majoring in environmental engineering at FGCU.

His diverse community service activities include instruction of elementary school students regarding environmental and panther protection issues with Wings of Hope; assistance with restoration of oyster reefs in Southwest Florida with the FGCU Coastal Watershed Institute; location and removal of illegal fishing equipment with the Environmental Police of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil with the Brazil Study Abroad Program in FGCU’s College of Arts and Sciences; and home construction for Habitat for Humanity.

In addition, Almcrantz is on the President's List, a member of the Ice Hockey team, the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and the Florida Engineering Society.
