Identification, Investigation, Collaboration: The Clearwater Task Force Symposium
FORT MYERS, FL - Florida Gulf Coast University Division of Justice Studies, in collaboration with Continuing Education and Off-Campus Programs, and in partnership with Lee County Sheriff's Office, presents "Identification, Investigation, Collaboration: The Clearwater Task Force" symposium, 8:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Oct. 22 in Sugden Welcome Center on campus.
The symposium is one of a series of free continuing education programs offering practical guidelines for practitioners and the public seeking an in-depth understanding of issues and actions related to human trafficking.
Dewey Williams, retired deputy chief from Clearwater Police Department, will give an overview of the framework for identifying and investigating human trafficking cases.
Williams will review indicators of human trafficking, and the requisite preparation and responses needed on the part of law enforcement and victim services. These include consideration of shelter, interpreters, case management, health care, the causes and effects of long term trauma, legal and immigration assistance.
Information about the Clearwater/Tampa Bay Task Force and insights into task force management, the collaborative nature of investigations, and best practices for law enforcement will also be shared.
The program is free and open to the public. Continental breakfast will be served prior to the presentation, 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Social workers, licensed mental health counselors, and RNs can obtain three contact hours.
